Trains Magazine, September 1974
Paul Rayton's US Trains - A nostalgic View from the 1970s

Tilbage til forsiden
Written and Photographed by: Paul Rayton, Hollywood, California, USDate: 09.02.2021
Canadian National's Super Continental passing CP Rail's Canadian south of Parry Sound.

This photo was the center spread image in the Sept. 1974 issue of "Trains" Magazine. This is a scan from the magazine's printed page, complete with the staple holes in the center! The caption info was on the preceding page in the original magazine. I modified the caption to change the page info, and have now inserted the caption in the lower right corner of the photo.

Those 3 cars to the front of where I was standing - the three with a few windows of "two window heights" - were "sleeperettes" (IIRC), meaning that they had the more-tiny private rooms, smaller than "roomettes", intended for single occupancy.

Incidentally, if you look at the cars in the consist of the CN train (at the left), there is one car, about the sixth car in front of where I was standing, which is a bit higher than the others. It's "only" been almost 50 years since I took the photo, but I seem to recall that car was an old Pullman-Standard "heavyweight", meaning each truck had 3 wheels, instead of the more modern cars having 2 wheels per truck. I believe that car may have been the dining car.
